When to go, what to wear, where to shop and how to get around: our tips for a smooth, successful trip.
Shopping, business or family holidays: Dubai is one of our customers’ favourite destinations. Here are the ten tips we give every first-time traveller.
1. Pick the right season
From November to March, temperatures are pleasant (20 to 30°C). In summer they often exceed 40°C: only ideal if you spend your days in the malls.
2. Get your visa early
The e-visa takes a few working days. Have a colour copy of your passport (6 months validity) and a photo on a white background.
3. Dress respectfully
Anything goes at the hotel and beach, but keep shoulders and knees covered in souks, mosques and traditional districts.

4. Book Burj Khalifa online
Observatory tickets are cheaper in advance. The sunset slot is the most beautiful… and the most popular.
5. Take the metro
Clean and air-conditioned, it links the airport, Dubai Mall and the Marina. Buy a rechargeable Nol card on arrival.
6. Compare before buying gold
At the Deira Gold Souk, prices depend on the daily rate and the workmanship. Compare several shops and negotiate the workmanship, not the weight.
7. Carry some cash
Cards are accepted everywhere, but keep a few dirhams for the abras (water taxis) and small souk shops.
8. Try a desert safari
Dune bashing, sunset and dinner under the stars: the excursion not to miss. We book it together with your hotel.

9. Aim for the shopping festivals
The Dubai Shopping Festival (December-January) brings big discounts in every mall.
10. Follow local rules
No alcohol in public, no photos of people without consent, and discretion during Ramadan.
